This is the letter that is given to each new member:

We hope you enjoyed your first rehearsal with us. We want you to know a little more about the band. If you have any questions not answered here, you may contact one of the Band officers.

PURPOSE:  The purpose of the Richardson Community Band is to provide a community service to the city of Richardson and provide a musical outlet for talented adult members of the community.

MEMBERSHIP:  You may be considered a member of the band after attending three rehearsals, at which time you will receive a copy of the roster and by-laws. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and concerts. If you need to miss a few consecutive rehearsals, let your section leader know. This information allows the conductor, George Jones, to make program decisions based on the instrumentation.

DUES:  Dues are $25 per year to be paid in September. For those joining after March 1, the dues are half the amount.

MUSIC:  Please do not take the music home until you have attended at least three rehearsals. If when you do take the music home for practice you find you will have to miss the next rehearsal or concert, you must make sure you return the music in time for use by other members.

CONCERTS:  We ask that you wait until you have attended three rehearsals before you play in a concert. The attire for outdoor concerts is a white band shirt (which may be purchased through the band) and black pants or skirt. No jeans or shorts. You will need to provide your own music stand. For indoor concerts, the men wear a white long-sleeve dress shirt (must be spread or button-down collar), black dress slacks, black dress shoes, black socks and solid black long tie. The women wear all black – either a black top with sleeves elbow length or longer (wrist length preferred) and mid-calf or longer black skirt, or black dress with the same sleeve and skirt lengths just stated – with black hose and black dress flats, pumps or heels. Although a long skirt or dress is preferred, women may wear black dress slacks if needed. No shiny or glittery elements.

We play a number of indoor concerts throughout the year in the Eisemann Center and at the Richardson Senior Citizens Center. During the summer we play outdoor concerts on the lawn adjacent to the Richardson Civic Center and Library. We play every other Sunday evening to a large, appreciative audience that brings lawn chairs and sometimes picnic food to eat while we play. We are often featured in the City of Richardson's Fourth of July fireworks show. During the Christmas season we perform at the Senior Citizens Center and Santa's Village by the Civic Center. Small groups of members play at parks, malls and other locations upon request. For the most current information on concerts, you may call the band hotline at 972-851-9784 or check the band’s Web site at www.richardsoncommunityband.org.

Again, Welcome! We are glad you are here. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask a band officer, your section leader, or a fellow band member.
