George Jones
George W. Jones
Director

George first served as the summer replacement conductor for the Richardson Community Band during his first summer in Texas in 1977. He was appointed as Director of the Band and conducted his first concert on May 8, 1983. During his tenure as director of the band, the band has grown both in size and popularity. He instituted the band's summer series which has become a favorite summer activity for families across the Metroplex.

George has served as the Director of Fine Arts for the Garland Independent School District since 1997. Prior to assuming this administrative position, he served as a band director in Garland for 18 years. He began his teaching career at Memorial Middle School, moved to the assistant band director position at South Garland High School and served as head band director at Lakeview Centennial High School for 13 years. In 1996 he served as the first band director at Rowlett High School where he co-composed the school's Alma Mater and Fight Song with choir director Danny Baker.

Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Music from Southern Methodist University. He is a member of Texas Music Educator Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Administrator’s Conference and Phi Beta Mu.

His wife Donna teaches ESL at Bullock Elementary in the Garland ISD and they have two children, Holly and Kyle.

Assistant Director

Jane Chambers first joined the Richardson Community Band as a member of the flute section in the Fall of 1977. She has served as Associate Director of the Band for more than 15 years. In addition to her conducting duties, Jane also writes the announcer's scripts for the Summer Series concerts.

Jane has been in music education for 34 years and has served as director of music activities at Ursuline Academy since 1984. Chair of the Performing Arts Department, she teaches orchestra, band, color guard, the Freshman, Concert, and Jazz choirs, and is director of the annual spring musical. Named the Teacher of the Year in 1997, she is listed in the Who's Who of American Teachers. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music Education from the University of North Texas. Active in several professional organizations, Ms. Chambers is presently Orchestra Division Vice President for the Texas Private School Music Educators Association.
